How it started

A small act of kindness, started by a kid.

Our founder and Chief Kindness Officer has spent plenty of time in waiting rooms and doctor’s offices. Early on, he started bringing a few favorite toy cars to play with while he waited.

He noticed other kids watching as he zoomed cars across a chair or bench. He often invited them to join him, and when it felt right, he let his new friends have a car to keep.

After seeing how much joy such a small gesture could bring, he decided to start bringing extra cars to appointments with the purpose of sharing them.

Inspired by the kindness of a 5-year-old, his parents and grandparents offered to help buy brand-new cars to give away during his medical visits. That small idea has become the Kindness Cars Project: a mission to help kids spread joy, one small gift at a time.

If you received a car

You probably met our founder and Chief Kindness Officer.

Thanks for being part of the Kindness Cars Project. We hope a small car brought a little joy, comfort, or welcome distraction to your day.

There’s nothing you need to do in return. But if this small moment made you smile, we hope it inspires you to pass a little kindness along when the time feels right.

Get involved

Help create the next small moment of joy.

We are not quite ready to accept donations yet. For now, we encourage you to find your own way to spread a little kindness.

  • Bring something small to share at your next appointment.
  • Write a note or draw a picture to say thank you to your care team.
  • Simply smile and say hello to the people you see in and around the hospital.

Thank you

With gratitude for everyone who cares for kids and families.

Thank you to everyone working across healthcare and hospital support. From direct care teams to the many people who keep clinics, hospitals, emergency services, family support programs, and daily operations running, your work matters deeply.

At Kindness Cars Project, we are especially grateful for Seattle Children’s Hospital and for every person who helps make care possible. Thank you for all that you do.
